Led by Project Chair Camille DeVito, members participated in a two-day fall cleanup at the Blue Star Memorial Garden located at Crofton Library.
Members removed invasive weeds and tree saplings, cut back the black-eyed Susan, planted ornamental cabbage and mulched the garden. Members of the Crofton Village Garden Club recently met to honor and thank Ruby Jaby, Manager of the Crofton library, upon her retirement. Ruby has been with the Anne Arundel County Library System for 48 years and opened the Crofton branch as Manager in 2002. She has been a huge supporter of the Garden Club in numerous projects, including the Flower Show, Books in Bloom project, Blue Star Memorial Garden, Native Garden, Pollinator Garden, two (2) Rain Gardens and removing/planting new trees along the parking lot median. Those in attendance were members that had direct contact with Ruby with these projects and include Past Presidents Sally Moore and Marcia Richard, Current President Cathy Gallagher, Camille DeVito, and Linda Childs.
Project Chair Gail Schulz held a clean-up day at the Pollinator Garden located at Crofton Library. Members weeded and edged the garden and worked on plant identification. Markers were added to the plants as an educational component to demonstrate to community members the importance of native plants to encourage the population of pollinators. The Pollinator Garden is a "stepping stone" on the Anne Arundel County Pollinator Pathway.
Thank you to Margo Antonelli, Linda Childs, Trish Demers, Camille DeVito, Denise Frey, Beverly Frye, Cathy Gallagher (CVGC President), Rosa Johnson, Glenna Kidd, Nancy Percivall, Gail Schulz, Lauren Toomey, and Claudia West for helping with the garden clean-up. Thank you also to Jim MacNicholl (Master Gardener) for his assistance with plant identification. |
