Some Crofton residents tell me their green thumb is itching to do some gardening, and next weekend offers some great opportunities to exercise that thumb without spending time outside in the cold.
January 19 and 20 is Birding Weekend at nearby Homestead Gardens’ two locations, in Davidsonville and Severna Park.
-
Kids Build a Birdhouse – Saturday, 11–12 p.m. (Davidsonville)
-
Wintering Raptors – Saturday, 12–1 p.m. (Davidsonville)
-
Kids Paint a Birdhouse – Saturday 12–1 p.m. (Severna Park)
-
Gardening for Wildlife – Sunday, 11–12 p.m. (Davidsonville) and Sunday, 2–3 p.m. (Severna Park)
Don’t have any kids to build or paint a birdhouse? No worries, bring the grandkids! Or skip the birdhouse activities and attend the sessions on Wintering Raptors or Gardening for Wildlife.
There will be other winter workshops weekly throughout the coming months. Visit Homestead Gardens website for more information.

Register now for a flower design class titled “Zen Creates the Mood”, offered by David Shover, and explore Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral design. David has presented his designs to Crofton Village Garden Club many times, to rave reviews, and this is a great opportunity for a hands-on experience, with him as your mentor.
